The two-direction flow
RMM → ITSM. Alerts auto-open tickets. Tickets update as alerts evolve.
ITSM → RMM. Tickets trigger scripts. Scripts update tickets with their results.
Bidirectional integration is where the real efficiency shows up. One-way integration (alert → ticket) is table stakes; two-way is where you get to auto-remediation.
The integration surface
You need these plumbing pieces:
- Ticket creation API. Pull ticket metadata in, link back via an ID.
- Ticket update API. Add comments, attach logs, update status.
- Webhook receiver on the RMM side. React to ticket events (state changes, comments, approvals).
- Identity mapping. RMM user ↔ ITSM user ↔ SSO identity.
- Tagging convention. Scopes, severities, and service identifiers consistent across both systems.
The patterns we see
Pattern 1: alert → ticket → auto-remediation
- RMM alert fires
- LynxTrac opens an ITSM ticket with severity, affected systems, and context
- If the alert matches an auto-remediation rule, the RMM runs the script
- Script output updates the ticket
- If remediation succeeds, the ticket auto-closes with a summary
- If it fails, the ticket stays open with the error and pages the on-call

- Operator files a change ticket in ITSM
- Change advisory board approves
- Approval triggers a LynxTrac script execution with scope from the ticket
- Script output logs back to the ticket
- Ticket closes with before/after state captured
Pattern 3: alert enrichment
- Ticket is created from any source (user report, monitoring, etc.)
- LynxTrac enriches with: last 30 min metrics, recent deploys, affected scope, relevant logs
- The ticket arrives at the on-call’s queue with actionable context, not just “thing broken”
What to integrate first
Start with pattern 1, narrow scope. Pick one type of alert that fires often and has a clean auto-remediation (e.g., disk cleanup). Ship that integration end-to-end. Iterate.
Don’t try to integrate everything at once. Incremental wins compound.
What breaks
- Stale ticket state. A ticket marked closed in ITSM that the RMM still considers open leads to confused operators. Resolve by making one system the source of truth for status.
- Infinite loops. Alert opens ticket; ticket update triggers alert; alert opens another ticket. Guard with dedup keys and idempotency tokens.
- Identity drift. Operator renamed, email changed, SSO re-issued. Resolve by mapping on external ID (SSO sub), not email or name.
The outcome
